Denver Business Journal
The Daniels Fund announced $8.5 million in fourth-quarter charitable grants Thursday, including $3.3 million to Denver-area nonprofits and agencies.
The Denver-based fund, endowed by the late cable magnate Bill Daniels, is giving its largest single local grant — $500,000 — to Special Transit of Boulder, which provides transportation options for people with limited mobility.
Denver Public Schools Foundation is receiving $325,000 for its New Teacher Project.
Other large Denver-area grants from The Daniels Fund in the fourth quarter are going to:
• Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, Denver ($200,000).
• Colorado Drug Endangered Children Inc., Boulder ($200,000).
• Colorado Neurological Institute, Englewood ($163,582).
• Family Star, Inc., Denver ($130,000).
• Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association Inc., Colorado Chapter, Denver ($125,000).
• Qualistar Early Learning, Denver ($125,000).
• Arapahoe House Inc., Thornton ($100,000).
• Bright Beginnings, Denver ($100,000).

• Senior Hub, Inc., Federal Heights ($100,000).
• Urban Peak Denver ($100,000).
Elsewhere in the state outside the Denver area, The Daniels Fund is awarding $1.5 million in grants this quarter, including $250,000 to the YMCA of Pueblo.
The fund projects it will distribute $38 million in grants and $12 million in college scholarships through the end of the year.
The fund focuses on several key areas in its giving: aging, alcoholism and substance abuse, amateur sports, disabilities, education, the homeless and disadvantaged, and youth development.
About two-thirds of its grants go to Colorado-based programs; the rest go mostly to other Rocky Mountain states.
