NCR relocation to cost 40 to 50 local jobs

Dayton Business Journal

NCR Corp. will move parts of its global customer service operations to Georgia, costing 40 to 50 Dayton area jobs.

Including Dayton, the jobs will be moved from a combination of locations, including Columbia, S.C. and Winnipeg, Canada. The move will create 916 jobs in Georgia over the next two years. The headquarters for NCR’s Worldwide Customer Services business will also be put in Georgia.

Dayton-based NCR (NYSE: NCR) will make a $15 million capital investment and expand the number of personnel in its existing facilities in Peachtree City and Duluth, Ga. The company will co-locate an NCR Learning Center and its Customer Care Center hub for the Americas region with the company’s existing Global Service Materials operation in Peachtree City.

NCR Spokesperson Lorraine Russell said the customer service employees will have the option to transfer. The move should be completed by the end of 2010.

“The creation of this center of excellence underscores NCR’s commitment to its growing Worldwide Customer Services business and to exceeding our customers’ expectations of NCR as a dependable technology partner,” said Christine Wallace, NCR senior vice president, in a news release.

NCR had $4.97 billion in revenue last year. The company, which sells ATMs and retail automation systems, has 1,300 local employees and 20,000 worldwide.
